After we went to the French Quarter we went for a little family drive and decided to drive to one of the areas where the levee broke. This isn't too far away from our house. It seems like just now they are starting to rebuild this area. They were fixing the levee and several of the homes were starting to get ripped down. As we started to drive through the neighborhood I had such a huge rush of emotions. We realize how blessed we were not to have anything happen to our home but more importantly that we were all safe. Everytime we drive through these neighborhoods you see what devastation Hurricane Katrina caused. You see it everywhere througout the city. It is something that you can never explain unless you see it.
This was a boat that was sitting in one of the front yards. We think that it was carried down here from the marina down on Lake Pontchartrain.
This is one of the few houses in this area that was still standing. We took this picture so that you could see the water line just above Ben's fingertips. After the water sat in the houses this long whether it was 2 inches or 10 feet the mold would grow so quickly throughout the house and just destroy everything.
